Mitch Woods calls his music "Rock-a-Boogie," a personal extension of the jump blues and boogie woogies that rocked the roadhouses and juke joints of the late '40s and early '50s. It's a raucous sound that is becoming increasingly popular in blues and R&B circles.

This music has been hiding under the floorboards, never unearthed by rock scholars or British revivalists, but it may have laid the groundwork for the R&B music of Ray Charles, Joe Turner, even Chuck Berry and James Brown.

He has been touring and recording with his band, the Rocket 88s, since the early 1980s. Woods calls his music "rock-a-boogie" and, with his backing band, has retrospectively created a jump-blues style of the 1940s and 1950s.

Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88s are the torchbearers of a great American blues legacy, and have been for three decades, not just three years.
